Aequitas, the Moot Court Society of Maharaja Surajmal Institute, is inviting law students from across India to register for the 1st All India Maharaja Surajmal Moot Court Competition on 13th and 14th November 2026.

About the Organisers

Maharaja Surajmal Institute is affiliated with GGSIP University, New Delhi, accredited with NAAC ‘A’ Grade, and approved by the Bar Council of India (BCI). The competition is designed in a hybrid model (online and offline) to test the advocacy, research and legal reasoning skills of law students on contemporary issues.

Eligibility

  • Open to all students pursuing 3-year or 5-year LL.B. degree courses from any recognised university/institution in India
  • Each team shall consist of 3 members (2 Speakers and 1 Researcher)
  • Maximum 3 teams per institution are allowed

Event details

  • The competition gives participants meaningful exposure to contemporary legal issues and a platform for rigorous academic and practical learning
  • Theme: Criminal Law
  • The Moot Proposition revolves around complex issues under the new criminal laws (BNS, BNSS and BSA)
  • Issues include circumstantial evidence and the “Last-Seen” theory
  • Issues include reversal of acquittal by High Courts
  • Issues include the constitutional validity of Trial in Absentia (Section 356 BNSS) for Proclaimed Offenders
  • Registration opens: 25th September 2026
  • Registration deadline: 15th October 2026
  • Clarifications deadline: 19th October 2026
  • Memorial submission deadline: 25th October 2026
  • Online Rounds: 2nd to 4th November 2026 (Researcher’s Test, Prelims and Quarter-Finals)
  • Offline Rounds: 13th to 14th November 2026 (Semi-Finals and Finals at Maharaja Surajmal Institute, New Delhi)

Fee and prizes

  • Registration fee: ₹2,000 per team
  • Total cash prize pool: ₹1,00,500
  • Winner: ₹21,000
  • Runner-Up: ₹11,000
  • Best Speaker: ₹5,000
  • Best Researcher: ₹5,000
  • Best Memorial: ₹5,000
