The Centre for Studies in Legal Theory (CSLT), Dharmashastra National Law University, Jabalpur is inviting articles for the September Issue of Nyayarth, its CSLT Newsletter, on the theme “The Afterlife of Law: What Survives When a Legal Rule Changes?”

About the Organisers

Dharmashastra National Law University (DNLU) is a National Law University founded in 2018 in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh. The Chief Justice of the Madhya Pradesh High Court serves as its Chancellor. The Centre for Studies in Legal Theory (CSLT) at the university brings out Nyayarth, the CSLT Newsletter, which publishes writing on legal theory and its practical consequences.

Eligibility

  • Co-authorship is allowed, with up to 2 authors per submission
  • Submissions must be original and unpublished
  • The similarity index must not exceed 10%

Submission guidelines

  • Theme: “The Afterlife of Law: What Survives When a Legal Rule Changes?”
  • The theme invites engagement with questions about how law persists beyond formal legal change
  • Sub-areas: Normative residue and desuetude
  • Sub-areas: Temporal jurisprudence and transitional justice
  • Sub-areas: Institutional memory and executive habit
  • Sub-areas: Theoretical paradigms of legal change, repeal and validity
  • Sub-areas: Law and morality
  • Sub-areas: Rights and duties after rule changes
  • Sub-areas: Legal fictions
  • Sub-areas: Obedience, custom and living law beyond formal authority
  • Word limit: 1,000 to 1,200 words
  • Format: .doc or .docx
  • References: Hyperlinks, and where a source is not available online, Bluebook 21st Edition endnotes
  • Review process: Each submission goes through a three-stage review comprising a plagiarism and AI check, a clarity review and a substantive review
